Definition of Privacy Law

Although “data privacy law” is not synonymous with “data protection law”, it is used here to describe the body of law dealing with the integrety of personal data. Since 2018, when it came into force, the GDPR has set standards in data protection law globally. Although it is an EU regulation, it’s scope of application reaches far beyond the EU Member States. In Germany, the GDPR is complemented by further rules. And traditionally, the German data protection authorities are amongest the strictest in the EU.

When letting flow data as assets through the business, data need to be managed to ensure compliance with relevant regulations. This goes, above all, for sensitive data. For instance, patient-related data sets used by healthcare organisations.

International Data Economy Projects

When trading data, for instance in the context of a data economy project, it is likely that data cross boundaries – not only within the EU, but also beyond, both outbound and inboud. Hence, it is advisable to review in particular data projects on their compliance with EU and German data protection laws.
